Madd Muttasil
It is a type of madd in the Arabic language, and it is defined as when the madd letter (alif, waw, or yaa) occurs connected to a hamza in one word. It is called continuous because the madd is directly connected to the hamza in the same word. In the following lines we mention madd muttasil examples:
Examples of Madd Muttasil in the Quran
It is called obligatory due to the consensus of the readers over its duration of more than two movements. It is called connected due to the presence of the mudd and hamza in one word.
The duration of the prayer is four or five movements at Hafs from Shatibiya Road, and the prayer of four movements is the most popular.
If the hamza that follows the madd letter is extreme and is stopped, it is permissible to extend it (i.e. the madd letter) by four, five, or six movements. In the following lines we cite examples:

Madd Muttasil and Munfasil
The Quran teachers at Shaikh Saleh Academy explain the difference between madd muttasil and munfasil:
Madd Muttasil:
It is the occurrence of the letter madd and the letter hamz after it in one word. The letter madd comes followed by the hamza in one word.
Madd Munfasil
It is the occurrence of the letter madd at the end of a word and the hamza at the beginning of the word immediately following it. The letter madd appears in one word and the hamza appears in another word.

Madd Munfasil:
- It is when a hamza occurs separately from the letter maad after it in another word.
- Its ruling: It is permissible to make it long or short (four or five).
- The hukki mafasla madd: in which the madd letter is deleted graphically and is fixed verbally, such as: Here you are.
- The true separate Madd: in which the letter Madd is fixed in both form and pronunciation, such as: Strengthen yourselves.
Madd Muttasil:
- It is when a continuous hamza occurs after the letter madd in one word.
- Its ruling: It must be extended for four movements or five movements in the case of connecting and stopping.
- It extends six vowels when stopping if its hamza is extreme, such as (as-samaa).

It is the madd that occurs at the end of a word, followed by a hamza at the beginning of the immediately following word. It is also called the madd al-fasl, because it separates two words, and the madd al-bast: because it simplifies between two words.

How many counts for Madd Muttasil?
The number of letters in madd is only three letters, which are:
The open alif is silent before it: such as a head, a day, or a thing.
The vowelized waw is what precedes it: such as juz, rum, and voice.
The silent yaa with a kasra before it: like bayt, night, and rasam.
It must be ensured that the madd letter is silent and that the movement preceding it is a madd movement (fatha, dhamma, or kasra) so that it is a continuous madd.
It is also not required that the hamzat al-wasl be immediately after the letter madd. Rather, it is permissible for them to be separated by other letters, such as I saw, jawa’iz, and shay’a.
The amount of madd muttasil also differs in different recitations, but in general, the continuous madd is extended by four or five movements in connection with a waqla and a stop, and it is extended by six movements in the case of a stop if its hamza is extreme.
