This course covers the basic topics in Usul al-Fiqh in an easy style. It begins by defining the Shari’ah ruling and its categories (Wajib, Haram, Mandub, Makruh, Mubah). The explanation then moves on to the agreed-upon sources of legislation (Quran, Sunnah, Ijma’, and Qiyas), explaining the authority of each source and how it is used.
The Simple Course of Usul ul Fiqh also addresses some important linguistic and foundational rules, such as the implications of commands (Amr) and prohibitions (Nahy), the general (‘Amm) and the specific (Khass), and the absolute (Mutlaq) and the restricted (Muqayyad).
