The Ijazah in Tajweed (Tuhfatul Atfal) course is the foundation with which every student who wants to learn the science of Tajweed correctly and systematically begins. This course focuses on studying a small book called the Matn of Tuhfatul Atfal, which is a beautiful and simple poetic poem written by the scholar Sheikh Sulaiman Al-Jamzouri. In it, he gathered the most important basic rules that a beginner in the science of Tajweed needs.

The main goal of this course is for the student to memorize the verses of this poetic poem and to understand the meaning contained in each verse, because each verse contains an important Tajweed rule. Studying this Matn gives the student a very strong theoretical foundation, enabling them to understand the basic rules of Tajweed, such as the rules of Noon Sakinah and Tanween, the rules of Mudood, and some other important rules.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Indeed the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. As for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.”

Course Overview

The teaching method in this course is based on two integrated steps. The first step is memorization, where the student must memorize the verses of the poem well. The second step is understanding and explanation, where the teacher explains each verse of the poem, clarifies the Tajweed rule within it, and then gives examples of it from the verses of the Holy Quran.

In this way, the student connects the theoretical rule they memorize from the poem with its practical application while reading the Holy Quran. After the teacher is certain that the student has memorized the entire Matn, understood its explanation well, is able to extract examples on their own, and is able to read the Quran applying all the rules in this Matn, the student then becomes qualified to receive the Ijazah in Tajweed (Tuhfatul Atfal).

Course Aims and Objectives

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Allah has His own people among mankind.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, who are they?’ He said: ‘The people of the Qur’an, the people of Allah and those who are closest to Him.”

This course aims to help the student achieve the following objectives:

  • Memorizing the “Tuhfatul Atfal” poem completely and proficiently.
  • Understanding and explaining all the Tajweed rules in the Matn.
  • Learning the basic types of Mudood and their rules.
  • Studying and understanding the rules of the Ghunnah of Meem and Noon Mushaddadah.
  • Building a strong theoretical scientific base in Tajweed.
  • Connecting the theoretical rule with practical application during recitation.
  • Developing the ability to extract the rules from the verses.

  • Upon successful completion of this foundational course, the student will be able to:
