Ijazah in Reading Quran {Hafs an Asem} is a course prepared for students who can read the Holy Quran from the Mushaf but want to ensure their recitation is correct and perfectly matches the way it was transmitted from Prophet Muhammad PBUH. After completing this course, the student receives an Ijazah from a specialized teacher certifying that the student’s recitation has reached a level of complete proficiency and is free of errors.

This course focuses specifically on the Rewayah of Hafs an Asem, as it is the most widespread and famous narration in most of the Islamic world. This course does not require the student to have memorized the entire Holy Quran. Instead, their reading of any part of the Quran is corrected to reach the highest level of accuracy and quality under the supervision of a Sheikh with Ijazah.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Indeed the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. As for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.”

Course Overview

The teaching method in this course is based on a practical and direct approach known as “Ard” where the student reads the entire Holy Quran aloud from the Mushaf in front of their teacher. The student must recite a complete Khatmah of the Quran, starting from Surah Al-Fatihah to Surah An-Nas. The teacher listens with great attention to correct any mistake, no matter how small, in real-time.

This immediate correction includes everything, such as pronouncing letters from their correct articulation points, giving each letter its specific attributes, and applying the various rules of Tajweed, such as the rules of Mudood, Idgham, Ikhfa’, and others. This course continues until the student finishes the complete Khatmah and reaches a stage where they can read for long periods without making mistakes. At that point, the teacher decides that the student is qualified to receive the Ijazah with a connected Sanad.

Course Aims and Objectives

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Allah has His own people among mankind.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, who are they?’ He said: ‘The people of the Qur’an, the people of Allah and those who are closest to Him.”

This Ijazah in Reading Quran {Hafs an Asem} course aims to help the student achieve the following objectives:

  • Reading every word in the Holy Quran with correct pronunciation.
  • The proper application of all rules and regulations of the science of Tajweed.
  • Mastering the correct vocal performance of different letters.
  • Qualifying to obtain the Ijazah in recitation with a Sanad.
