What is the meaning of madd lazim?
It is the vowel in which it is not permissible to shorten it, that is, it is not permissible to pronounce the letter too short, but rather it must be lengthened according to the rules of intonation.
In Tajweed rules, madd is a rule for necessary prolongation. Madd can be classified into two types: madd lazim kalimi (letter-based necessary prolongation) and madd lazim harfi (word-based necessary prolongation). Madd is further categorized into madd al-muthaqal (heavy) and madd al-mukhaffaf (light), depending on the letters involved.
Examples of madd harfi mukhaffaf include instances where the saakin letters are elongated correctly. These include the rules of madd harf mukhaffaf.
In the following lines, we mention examples of madd harfi mukhaffaf:
At the beginning of the surah:
- madd harfi muthaqqal Examples: The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the Ant, the Spider, Luqman, the Sajdah, Yasin, the Safat, Q, Hud, Yusuf, the Thunder, Ibrahim, the Stone, the Cave, Maryam, Taha, the Ants, the Stories, the Spider, the Rum, Luqman, Sajdah, Yasin, As-Saffat, Q, Hud, Yusuf, Thunder, Ibrahim, Al-Hijr, Al-Kahf, Maryam, Taha.
- madd examples diluted: N (An-Naml), S (Al-Saffat), Q (Q), Hud (Hood), Yusuf (Joseph), Al-Raad (Thunder), Ibrahim (Abraham), Al-Hijr (The Stone), Al-Kahf (The Cave), Maryam (Maryam), Taha (Taha).
Other than the beginning of the surahs:
- madd lazim harfi burdened: The Most Merciful (the Most Compassionate), Malik (Owner of the Day of Judgment), the All-Knowing (the All-Knowing, the Most Merciful), the Most Merciful (the Most Compassionate), the Generous (the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful), the Praiseworthy (the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful), Al-Mannan (the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful), the Lord ( The Lord, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, Lord (Lord of the Worlds), etc.
- Reduced: So he came (so God brought other people), and they sought (and seek from God provision), and fear (and fear God), and be patient (and be patient over what befalls you), and know (and know that God is with those who are patient), etc.
What are the different types of mad Lazim?
The different types of necessary extensions in the Quran are explained to us by the Quran teachers at Shaikh Saleh Academy in detail as follows:
Madd Lazim Al-Kalmi:
- Muthakabal: It is an intransitive maddah that occurs when an open madd letter comes before a stressed consonant, such as: Rahman (the Most Merciful), nasib, malak (king).
- Muthaf: It is an intransitive maddah that occurs when the open madd letter comes before a vowel consonant, such as: rasul (messenger), torment (punishment), kitab (book).
Madd Lazim harfi:
- Muthakabal: It is an intransitive madd that occurs when the silent madd comes after an open stressed letter, such as: and the believers (and the believers), and the angels (and the angels), and the people (and the people).
- Al-Mukhtuf: It is an intransitive prolongation that occurs when the silent consonant of the vowel comes after an open vowel, such as: For God is the Sustainer (for God is the Sustainer), and God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing (and indeed God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), and indeed God is the Forgiving, the Merciful (and indeed God is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing). He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.)
