Surah Maryam is a Meccan surah (i.e. it was revealed before the migration of the Messenger, PBUH, to Medina), and the number of its verses is 98. It was revealed to our Prophet Muhammad in the fourth year of the mission, meaning that it was revealed before Surah Taha, and after Surah Fatir, and its order is 44 in terms of revelation. It is also the nineteenth surah of the surahs of the Holy Quran in terms of order, and it is called Surah Maryam or Surah (كهيعص) “Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad”.

Its name goes back to the Virgin Maryam, the mother of the Prophet ʿĪsā (Jesus), PBUH. She is the only woman whose name was mentioned several times in the Quran, as her name was repeated about 30 times. It also responds to all the slander that the Jews said about them, and showed the extent of the chastity and purity of the Virgin Maryam, and that Allah distinguished her from other women, and the surah contains many evidences of the oneness of Allah.

This surah also emphasizes the resurrection, and that there is a day when all creatures will be held accountable, and explains the importance of worshipping Allah SWT, and patience in obedience. The surah Maryam benefits are many, especially when reading it and being keen to contemplate its meanings. The surah Maryam benefits are as follows:

1- Great Rewards

When reading the surah, you receive a lot of reward, as each letter of the Quran is a good deed, and a good deed is ten times its like, thus achieving a great reward. This reward increases with memorizing the verses and paying attention to learning their interpretation.

2- Tranquility and Serenity

Surah Maryam achieves a lot of security and peace for those who read it, as it tells the story of prophet Zakariya, and his desire to have children after it was impossible for a number of reasons, but he was certain that Allah is capable of everything. His wish that he hoped for was fulfilled, and Allah blessed him with his son, Prophet Yahya, whom Allah made dutiful to his parents, and made him a prophet.

قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ: يَا يَحْيَىٰ خُذِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ بِقُوَّةٖۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلۡحُكۡمَ صَبِيّٗا.

Qāla Allāhu Ta‘ālā: Yā Yaḥyá khudh al-kitāba bi-quwwatin wa-ātaynāhu al-ḥukma ṣabiyyā.

Allah the Exalted said: “O John, take the Scripture with determination.” And We gave him judgment [while yet] a boy.

In this example, there is mercy from Allah to His servants that fills your heart with reassurance, and that all your prayers will be fulfilled, Allah willing. Allah SWT also reassured Maryam when she was afraid during childbirth, and bestowed His mercy upon her, and relieved her of all her worries, and this appeared in the words of Allah SWT:

فَنَادَاهَا مِن تَحْتِهَا أَلَّا تَحْزَنِي قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّا (٢٤) وَهُزِّي إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسَاقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا (٢٥) فَكُلِي وَاشْرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيْنًا فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ أَحَدًا فَقُولِي إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ صَوْمًا فَلَنْ أُكَلِّمَ الْيَوْمَ إِنسِيًّا (٢٦)

(سورة مريم: 24-26)

Fa-nādāhā min taḥtihā allā taḥzanī qad ja‘ala rabbuki taḥtaki sariyyā (24) wa-huzzi ilayki bijidh‘i an-nakhlati tusāqiṭ ‘alayki ruṭaban janiyyā (25) fa-kulī wa-ishrabī wa-qarrī ‘aynā fa-immā tarayinna mina al-bashari aḥadan fa-qūlī innī nadhartu li-ar-Raḥmāni ṣawman fa-lan ukallima al-yawma insiyyā (26).

“But he called her from below her, ‘Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. (24) And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. (25) So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, ‘Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to any human.’”

(Surah Maryam: 24-26)

3- Lessons and Reflections

There are many lessons and morals in Surah Maryam that clarify the great surah Maryam benefits, and this is evident in the following:

Allah provides for whomever He wills without account, and this is evident in the miracle that fulfilled the wish of the Prophet Zakaria, and that no matter what happens, we should not lose hope in Allah’s mercy.
The Surah clarified that the greatest sin that any human being can commit is associating partners with Allah SWT and not believing in the resurrection.
It contains the glorification of Allah SWT that He is the One and Only, with no partner, and that He has no son, glory be to Him, and the necessity of worshipping Allah SWT, for He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
We must have good thoughts about Allah, and pray a lot asking for guidance and success in every good deed, and the Surah clarifies that whoever strives and works hard, Allah will reward him according to his effort.
It is important for a person to be careful to be dutiful to his parents because they are the reason for our existence in this life and they are keen to take care of us and care for us.
The Day of Resurrection is coming inevitably and every person will be resurrected and held accountable for his deeds, whether good or bad, so you must improve your work and be sincere to Allah.

4- Healing from Diseases

The various surahs of the Quran are a source of healing for a person from all diseases of the hearts, and Surah Maryam is one of these great surahs. When a person realizes the greatness of Allah SWT, he is protected from arrogance, envy, magic, polytheism, and other diseases. 5- Other Virtues

Among the surah Maryam benefits is facilitating all matters and problems that you suffer from, as your certainty in Allah’s ability increases through knowing the great miracles and the extent of His defense of His saints. Our master Jaafar bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said about this surah that whoever recites it won’t die or leave this world until he doesn’t suffer temptation in himself, his wealth, or his children. In the Hereafter, he will be among the companions of ʿĪsā (Jesus), son of Maryam, and will be given a reward equal to the kingdom of the prophet Soliman, son of the Prophet Dāwūd (David).

Benefits of surah maryam for marriage

There is no specific evidence in the Qur`an nor the sunnah about the merit of Surah Maryam in increasing a woman’s chances of marriage, but the surah Maryam benefits lie in that it instills in your heart certainty in the truth of Allah’s promise. And that with frequent supplication, fate changes, and all of a person’s wishes are fulfilled, including his wish to marry. Also, spouses who are late in having children shouldn’t despair, as Allah SWT blessed Zakariya, PBUH, with Yahya PBUH, when he was old and his wife was barren.

All the surahs of the holy Quran without exception, whether Surah Maryam or any other surah, increase blessings in the home. By reading the Quran, a person finds blessings in his time and money, and Allah guides him to the best words, helps him, fills his heart with contentment, expands his livelihood, and with the Quran he achieves good righteousness until death, and begins to see the world as it really is, and learns about Allah and Paradise and becomes more eager to reach it.

Are there any particular times when it is recommended to recite Surah Maryam?

Surah Maryam can be read at any time of the day because reading the Quran is an act of worship for which a Muslim is rewarded, and because of it he gets a lot of reward and reward, in addition to increasing blessings and goodness in time and health, and this is one of the most important surah Maryam benefits.

If you want to understand and contemplate the Surah better, you can choose the times when your focus increases so that you can get the maximum possible benefit. Night is considered one of the best times to use to read the Surah, due to the lack of distractions at that time and complete calm. However, the Prophet did not mention a specific time when it is more desirable to read Surah Maryam than others.

Can Surah Maryam be used for personal benefits?

It is not permissible to exploit the Quran for personal benefits if it will harm others or if this matter is an innovation; because a Muslim must adhere to what the Prophet PBUH commanded, and not invent new things on his own, as Allah has completed this religion. It isn’t permissible to do things that weren’t mentioned in a basic text from the Prophet PBUH or commanded by jurists and scholars.
