Prayer is one of the most important and greatest obligations after the two testimonies of faith “Shahada”. Whoever abandons it has disbelieved, because it is the reason for the Muslim’s success in this world and the Hereafter. Allah SWT has commanded us to perform five prayers daily, and each prayer has a specific time that must be adhered to. In this article, we will explore how long does dhuhr prayer last? and what is the method of performing Dhuhr prayer.
How long does dhuhr last?
Some ask: How long does dhuhr prayer last? The time for Dhuhr prayer begins when the sun is at its zenith in the sky and begins to incline towards the west. Its time ends when the shadow of everything is equal to its length, based on the hadith of the Prophet, PBUH:
“The time for Dhuhr is when the sun has passed its zenith and a man’s shadow is equal to his length, as long as the time for Asr has not come.”
Dhuhr prayer is the second of the prayers that a Muslim performs daily during the daytime after Fajr prayer. It is performed silently in a low voice, and its number of rakats is four rakats, except on Friday when it is performed aloud and its number of rakats is two and it is prayed in the mosque. The time for Dhuhr prayer is when the sun begins to decline and break towards the west, according to the hadith:
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When you pray Fajr, it is time until the first horn of the sun rises, then when you pray Dhuhr, it is time until Asr comes, then when you pray Asr, it is time until the sun turns yellow, then when you pray Maghrib, it is time until the twilight falls, then when you pray Isha, it is time until midnight.”
